Pleroma Academy on Saturday, 22nd June, 2019 held its 2nd graduation ceremony at Tema Community 18 to honor the graduates of the institute for a successful completion of a 6-month course in English.

The graduation Saw 12 students from Congo Brazzaville, Benin , Côté d’Ivoire among others graduate from the study of English language.

Pleroma academy is a Non Governmental Organization which operates as a private social enterprise. Located at Tema community 18, Pleroma academy’s mission is to deliver value to the community through quality education.

Speaking at the event, the director of the school, Mrs. Mylande Edoun Odjo, advised her students to keep their principles in touch.

She made it clear to them that, commitment, passion and dedication should be their hallmark in every aspect they see themselves in. she encourage her students to go all out for their goals and also believe in themselves.

“You all have something good; you all have something special to offer. In various areas you all have something to offer”

“Some of you will be continuing your studies, some of you will be going back to work, and some of you might start something on your own. Go all out for it and make sure you achieve your set goals in life”

She further advised them not to be limited to the little they can speak, but rather boost their confidence and make them better.

Guest speaker for the event madam Irene Fouka, who is also a product of the English Language class as a foreigner, advised the students to take the English language seriously because it will open doors for them.

“I am where I am today because of English, I have received several opportunities because of English so take it serious when you go back to your countries”

The school is a non-sectarian institution regulated by local law and also actively empowers the community without discrimination on the basis of race, color and nationality and ethnic origin. Courses offered by the school are French, English and Chinese

The school also offers free scholarship for less privileged students who cannot further their education in the tertiary institutions; called PASS

She is awarded the title of Austrian Sportswoman of the Year in 2013, 2014 and 2015. She won a gold medal in the Super-G and a silver medal in the giant slalom at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. She is 30 today.

 

Craig Mottram, born on June 18, 1980, and will be 39 today, he is a middle distance and long distance runner from Australia. He specializes in the 5000m event. He made his Olympic debut at the age of 20 in the 5000-meter event at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Sandra Raluca Izbașa is 29 years today. She is a retired artistic gymnast, born on June 18, 1990 in Romania. She is the Winner of gold and bronze at the 2008 Beijing and again gold and bronze at the 2012 London Olympics

 

Born on 18th June 1984, Janne Happonen is a ski jumper from Finland. He is competing since 2001 and represents the Puijo Ski Club. He made his debut at the World Cup in November 2001 in Kuopio where he finished at the impressive eleventh position in the individual large hill event. He will be 35 today.

Spanish club, Real Madrid have unveiled Serbian striker, Luka Jovic to the fans at the Santiago Bernabau in Spain.

Jovic who was signed from the German club Eintracht Frankfurt was shown to the fans at the Santiago Bernabau in Spain on Wednesday Afternoon.

Jovic signed a six-year contract with Madrid, who paid a reported €60 million to buy the striker to keep him at the club till 2024-25 season.

During his unveiling, he said, “I’m the happiest guy in the world to sign for such a big club. I’m very excited and sure I made the right decision. I will give everything to help Real Madrid to win more trophies and titles”.

At the unveiling session, the president of the club, Florentino Perez admitted the bad performance his club endured in the past season and promised that, the signing of Jovic will make them perform well in the coming season and beyond.

The likes of Eden Hazard, Eder Militao and Rodrygo have all been added to the Madrid squad ahead of the 2019-20 season.

The transfer season is still young and Madrid hope to bring in more players in addition to the ones they have.

Popular marriage counselor George Lutterodt has predicted doom for the recent marriage between entertainment journalist Eugene Sarfo and actress/journalist Victoria Lebene. George Lutterodt has made comments relating to the marriage between Eugene Sarfo and Victoria Lebene.
In a video sighted by YEN.com.gh, Counselor Lutterodt shared his opinion on why the marriage is not likely to last. “I am saying it, let it be on record that I said, the taste of woman that Eugene Nkansah likes is not Lebene,” he ranted. He further criticized Victoria as he claimed that she made a mistake by marrying Eugene Sarfo.
“It will not last. I know it won’t because at his birthday he made us realize that he loves ladies with fat backside,” he disclosed. Counselor Lutterodt claimed that he and Eugene are close friends so he knows that his assertion is true. He alleged that Eugene goes to the extent of stopping his car to look at ladies who are heavily endowed.
The counselor also made reference to the videos that Eugene posts on his blog as he claimed that most are women with heavy backside. Counselor Lutterodt’s comment followed the much talked about celebrity wedding between Peace FM’s Eugene Sarfo Nkansah and Victoria Lebene. The marriage ceremony which took place on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 saw a lot of celebrities gracing the occasion.
Male and female movie actors, radio and television presenters among others turned up looking elegant.

Rice dishes are among the commonest consumed dishes the world over. Our country cannot be left out of this state of affairs.

A lot of people eat rice. Actually, there are people who can eat rice water (rice porridge) in the morning, boiled plain rice in the afternoon and rice balls in the evening.

They are just fine going that way.

Rice being a cereal is a rich source of carbohydrates, a major energy provider to the human body.

It also has a little protein and other nutrients. In fact much more protein compared to the traditional carbohydrate source foods like cassava, plantain, yam, among others.


Eating rice as rice water (rice porridge) is a good way to load up on energy.

This is a good breakfast as well. It is not complete if eaten with only sugar.

There surely must be some milk and or roasted groundnut added.

Boiled rice eaten with stew or soup is also a good combination.

This of course is not complete without a protein source, stew or soup.

It is a fact that most rice eaters will choose white rice over brown rice.

The white rice is also known as polished rice and the brown rice is also known as unpolished rice.

The polished rice is touted as delicious and easy to eat while the unpolished rice is seen as hard to eat and not delicious.

Polished and unpolished rice both contain starch almost to the same level.

After consumption, rice will be digested. Like any other starchy food, rice becomes glucose after digestion.

In the small intestines, the glucose gets absorbed into the blood stream.

It must be taken from the blood and passed onto cells for conversion into energy.

This is the point at which the starch or food becomes useful to the body.

Whereas there is a wholesale absorption of glucose that results from the digestion of polished rice, the case is a bit different when it comes to the unpolished one.

Due to the presence of the outer covering in the unpolished rice, some of the glucose escapes absorption.


The chaff carries them along into the large intestine and then into the rectum, later bringing them out as in faeces.

Unpolished rice also stays longer in the stomach before eventually being emptied into the small intestines for digestion to proceed.

This is the reason why consumers of unpolished rice do not feel hungry soon after eating. It helps control hunger thereby preventing overeating.

It is therefore likely to have blood sugar levels controlled better after consuming rice in the unpolished state. This is good news for all diabetics and anyone who wants to prevent diabetes as well.

Since digestion and absorption rates are lower for the unpolished rice, the rate of increase in blood glucose is also lower.

You will agree with me that it takes longer to chew the unpolished rice compared to the polished one.

The advantage this offers is the inability to overeat due to the fatigue of chewing.

The unpolished rice with its properties also supports weight loss.

After eating this food, the temptation to take drinks or eat pastries as snacks soon afterwards will be reduced to the barest minimum.

There will also not be too much glucose so the body thinks of storing some as fat.

The body stores excess sugar as fat that is why anyone who eats more starchy foods than their body uses will gain weight.

Rice lovers should also eat their rice with stews made from leafy vegetables.

Also eat rice in reasonable quantities. Eating rice late at night is also not advisable.

This only makes you load up on energy which does not get used up as you will be sleeping.

There are people who are addicted to the polished rice and therefore believe they cannot switch to the unpolished one. This does not have to be the case.

I believe that with a little effort, everyone can eat the unpolished rice.

You can start by mixing the polished and the unpolished rice and then eventually feed on the unpolished rice fully. Try preparing porridge from the brown (unpolished rice) and you will like it.

It is also a good idea to mix polished rice and wheat.

I wish to also put it across that there are some types of rice that looks brown but are not unpolished rice. Some are just coloured brown. Such types change colour after they are washed in water.

The right types have some chaff around them that give them the characteristic brown colour.

These types will taste differently from the usual white or polished rice so beware.

As you enjoy your rice dish, do so with your health and well-being in mind.

A record number of eight children have been crowned co-champions in the US of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

On Thursday night the finalists, aged 12 to 14, spelled their way through 20 tough rounds of the competition.

Organisers eventually announced that it was a tie, as they had run out of words that were challenging enough.

With six of the winners being Indian-American, it is the 12th year in a row that the bee has been won by children of Indian descent.

This year’s contest was held in Oxon Hill in Maryland. It began on 26 May and lasted for three days.

Saketh, 13, told Associated Press: “I don’t know if I would’ve won if they kept going. I was super tired because it was like [midnight], and I was exhausted.”

Each will now receive a prize of $50,000 (£39,700), a $2,500 savings bond and reference books.

Among the words they spelled correctly were omphalopsychite, a person who stares at their navel to induce a mystical trance, and auftaktigkeit, a musical principle where all musical phrases begin on an upbeat.

There were quite a few tough medical terms in there too – including erysipelas, an infection that causes red rashes on the skin, and geeldikkop, a type of plant poisoning that can affect sheep.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee was started in 1925. However, this is the 92nd event because there were no competitions held in 1943, 1944 or 1945.

Chat show host Ellen DeGeneres has spoken about how she was sexually assaulted as a teen by her stepfather.

DeGeneres said the abuse took place when she was 15 or 16, after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“He told me… he’d felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts,” she told interviewer David Letterman.

DeGeneres first spoke about the abuse in 2005, but said she was now going into more detail “because I want other girls to not ever let someone do that”.

Speaking on Letterman’s Netflix show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, the 61-year-old explained that her late former stepfather had first assaulted her when her mother was out of town, telling her he needed to check for lumps.

“I didn’t know about bodies. I don’t know that breasts are all different,” she said.

“Anyway, he convinced me that he needs to feel my breasts and then he tries to do it again another time, and then another time he tries to break my door down and I kicked the window out and ran ’cause I knew it was going to go more to something.”

‘I should’ve protected myself’

The comedian said she did not tell her mother at first because she didn’t want to upset her.

“I should never have protected her,” she said. “I should’ve protected myself, and I didn’t tell her for a few years and then I told her, and then she didn’t believe me and then she stayed with him for 18 more years.”

DeGeneres explained that her mother did ultimately leave her husband after he kept changing his version of events. The TV star hopes other young girls will benefit from hearing her tale.

“That’s the only reason I think it’s important to talk about it,” she said. “Because there’s so many young girls and it doesn’t matter how old you are.

“When I see people speaking out, especially now, it angers me when victims aren’t believed, because we just don’t make stuff up.

“And I like men, but there are so many men that get away with so much.”

With more than half the Indian population struggling with excess weight, weight loss is on the mind of most people. For the very same reason, people go to far extremes and try every new diet and enroll in the most expensive gyms, whatever aids their weight loss journey.

Your gym trainer says that your workout is the most important part of your weight loss, while your nutritionist might tell you otherwise. But what exactly is more important for weight loss?

Neither workout or diet, there is another thing which matters the most when it comes to losing weight.
The National Sleep Foundation says that adults aged between 18 to 64 should get seven to nine hours of sleep every night. This good night sleep plays a major role in losing weight and also in maintaining it. It is because people those who sleep less than five to six hours every day are 45 per cent more likely to be obese.
In many countries, the number of people who are sleep deprived is almost equal to the number of people who are obese. Not denying the fact that exercising regularly is a vital habit to hit your ideal weight, but sleep has the unique ability to make you lose weight and keep you away from the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart diseases. What does poor sleep do?Poor sleep drains you of energy, affects energy balance and function in every tissue of your body, as per experts. A good workout or a healthy diet is dependent on your sleep because poor sleep can make you overeat or not eat at all and won’t give you the required energy to workout.

This happens because sleep deprivation affects the hunger-regulating hormones making binging a biological inevitability and not a matter of willpower. StudyAccording to a study conducted by the Mayo Clinic, men and women who cut 80 minutes from their regular sleep cycle, ate 549 extra calories the next day. Another study from the University of California – Berkley used brain scans of people to find that sleep deprivation impairs activity in the brain’s frontal lobe, which is in charge of complex decision making and increases the activity in the brain’s reward centre, the one that lights up in response to salt, sugar and fat.
When you are sleep deprived, your brain wants more high-energy foods for fueling itself. Thus, it’s no surprise that when you are awake at 2 or 3 in the night, you do not think about salads.
And if somehow one managed to stick to their weight loss routine even after being sleep deprived, it will make their weight loss progress suffer.

In one study led by the University of Chicago, when dieters slept for 8.5 hours every day for two weeks, their weight loss results increased. However, when they got 5.5 hours of sleep, their rate of fat loss dropped by 55 per cent, while following the same diet.

Not just this, a research published in the Journal Diabetologia shows that four days of sleep deprivation reduces the body’s insulin sensitivity, increasing your risk for fat storage.

A good quality sleep helps you stick to your diet as well as workout routine. The consequences of poor sleep are worse than just feeling tired, so be wise and sleep tight.

American rapper, Cardi B, who is worth a whopping $8 million has splashed $80k on diamonds for her 10-month-old  daughter, Kulture.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, the 26-year-old rapper and mother of one showed off her little daughter wearing one of the brand new bracelets and said: ‘Just spent a bag on my daughter, you know a bad b**** gonna spoil.’

She tagged New York-based Pristine Jewelers in the post, before continuing to explain her actions, saying, ‘If I’m iced out my daughter gotta be too.’

She then added: ‘YEUP IM BRAGGING CAUSE I BUST MY A– TO DO SOO.’

Cardi also shared a screenshot of a text message, along with a picture of the new merchandise she bought for her daughter.

Veteran Nigerian actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo affectionately known  as RMD has advised women against prioritizing petty certain physical features.

According to him, women who are secure with their looks do not need to go under the knife to enhance their bodies.

Citing Former First Lady of the United States of America, Michelle Obama as an example, RMD in his post stated that having a butt enlargement or boobs lift, amongst other things, doesn’t guarantee true happiness.

“Having been there and done that, I can tell you for free that weight loss, weight gain, butt enlargement, boob lift, marriage, buying/building your own house, having kids, wearing expensive clothes and shoes CANNOT make you truly happy. Mostly, the things we do to show others we are beautiful, made, tough and/or connected are things that magnify our insecurities. A man who is secure in himself has no urge to flaunt wealth, I’m yet to see Alh. Dangote post a picture of his “machines” or of him “chilling in his private jet”. A woman who is secure in her looks has no urge to go under the knife for enhancement, think Michelle Obama. True happiness comes from knowing who you are (self discovery) and loving yourself, “even though…” Anyone who can live without caring about the validation of others is the one who has found true happiness” he wrote on his page.
