The Ghana Swimming Association was privilege to have Ghana Gas supporting them to organize the National Swimming Championship 2019 at the Legon Pool in Accra on Saturday the 18th of May, 2019.
In all there were 9 swimming clubs who participated in the national event and this time around we had clubs from Kumasi joining for the championship.
The members of the GhanaSwimTeam didn’t have it easy at all because some expatriate swimmers caused stirs as they were able to beat certain swim favorites in the competition.
The President of the Association Theo Wilson Edzie was happy with attendance and also thanked Ghana Gas for the support given to them and prayed that more corporate institutions will also come on board to support swimming in the country.
The coach of the national swim team Kodwo Abbiw Jackson was really happy about competition but wants more from government as developmental opportunities for the swimmers because with their developments, one can easily identify a potential swimmer who can easily take over the known ones.
Some deserving winners were on the podium to collect their various medals especially Gh Dolphins who were the toast of fans that went to the pool for fun.
One name that when it comes to swimming everyone knows his potential was there to perform the magic again and am talking about Abeiku Jackson who dropped some micro seconds off his personal best in the 50m Freestyle race. Abeiku did 23.04s in the 50m final of the freestyle to drop a micro second of his personal best of 23.05s.
He spoke to Omy Television about his comeback from injury and how optimistic he is after gaining experience in some major championships he has competed in and this is the time for him to take swimming to the next level.
A parent and other swimmers expressed satisfaction about the event and how it was organised, the mayor of Accra Hon. Adjei Sowah who was an official and also a board member of Swimming too expressed happiness for the organization and thanked the sponsors for making the National Swimming Championship 2019 a reality.
In all it was a great spectacle achieved by the Ghana Swimming Association.
